Memories of Tess - The Grand Canyon

Image
You know it’s amazing … I’ve got all this good stuff going on but I watched this video this morning and I’m just a puddle of tears. Tess wouldn’t let me take her picture anymore so I only have that one of her from a distance wearing her red jacket… she’s looking over the edge of the canyon… it was our first day and a very cloudy day. We didn’t know that the sun would eventually come out and clear the skies… that photo always made me feel so melancholy, like she was just my little baby girl. My little bird and I wanted so much to protect her. I guess that’s what grieving is. You think everything is ok and it is and then suddenly it’s not. That guitar music is played by Patrick Ki. It’s beautiful. Here There and Everywhere… we met Patrick Ki in the restaurant and Tess just loved him and talked with him and wanted people to shut up so they would listen to him. She instantly cared for someone if she felt like they were being harmed or disrespected. Just like she was an advocate for...

Breathing Meditation

Image
There is strong evidence that Jesus practiced forms of meditation, particularly as understood in the context of Jewish and early Christian traditions. The Gospels describe Jesus frequently withdrawing to quiet places for extended periods of prayer and solitude (Mark 1:35), which likely included meditative reflection on Scripture and communion with God 2 . Meditation in the biblical sense often means to deeply ponder or contemplate God’s word and presence, as commanded in passages like Joshua 1:8 2 . While the Bible does not explicitly state that Jesus used specific meditation techniques, his habits of solitude, prayer, and focus on God’s will align closely with meditative practices. Early Christian traditions, such as the Jesus Prayer, developed as ways to imitate this contemplative approach, emphasizing repetitive prayer and mindful presence with God 1 3 .  Thus, while Jesus may not have meditated in the same way as in Eastern traditions, he clearly engaged in deep, reflect...

What is the meaning of Life?

Copilot What is the meaning of life? The meaning of life is one of the most profound and personal questions you can ask. It can mean something different to everyone—love, growth, connection, purpose, or simply the joy of experiencing the world. Philosophers, scientists, and dreamers have pondered this question for centuries, but perhaps the beauty lies in its ambiguity. For some, it's about leaving a legacy or making a positive impact. For others, it's about embracing the small moments—like laughter with loved ones, a sunrise, or the quiet satisfaction of learning something new. What does the meaning of life feel like to you? Or is it something you're still exploring? perplexity The Meaning of Life: Philosophical, Psychological, and Personal Perspectives No Universal Answer There is no single, universally agreed-upon answer to the question, "What is the meaning of life?" Across history, cultures, and philosophies, this question has generated countless interpretat...

THE FOUR ELEMENTS OF TRUE LOVE - Thich Nhat Hanh

The Four Elements of Love Loving Kindness Compassion Joy Equanimity  Respect Trust I am breathing in I am breathing out Return

I saw your… I’m 76 and then I saw that was a year ago so happy birthday 1948… to your point, The Beatles changed Everything! I didn’t get to see all the groups you did but I saw a few…  4 Tops, Chicago, James Taylor, Bon Jovi, Sting…. But with the possible exception of the four tops, probably none of these other groups would’ve been there for us because the Beatles told us we could do this…. The Beatles told us that we could get together and start learning how to play the guitar chords sing a couple harmonies and even make up the words and we still just a snowball chance of being like The Beatles… so like you said groups like the Doors, The Byrds, and names like Crosby stills, Nash and Young, all got their inspiration from the Beatles… and even today my 40 year-old kid is Suddenly into Billy strings… and even Blue grass, Billy strings gives a nod to the Beatles… and sometimes when I try to explain the phenomenon to my younger generation, I realize that for some things you jus...
To Sandra for hosting the dinner for me: Hey Sandra, I just want to say again how great it was for you to even offer this to begin with but then how amazing it was how it all worked out. I mean, I’m kind of a computer geek in away or as John called me years ago a gadget geek so I generally can figure things out, but I think it was real teamwork yesterday with you and I getting the YouTube to work on your TV and then to be able to show the video without a hitch. Your home and your place settings were just beautiful and like I say I don’t even wanna get a napkin dirty so thank you for letting me use a paper towel and not slapping my hand๐Ÿคฃ I did get a chance to talk with Chuck about the trikes and I really look forward to having you guys over to check them out. I just realized it’s Good Friday, which is why they’re not working on the trail today Lauren Sam and the boys will be over probably within a few minutes and then we’ll do whatever we do riding around on the trail or going out...

Text to Lauren April 15, 2025

Image
Text to Lauren I’m watching this over and over again to prepare for Thursday night with our friends so I’m not reduced to a puddle of tears… but like I’ve told you… it’s all good… they are happy tears… this is like watching a movie about young love. I have to pinch myself to realize it’s actually me… I almost look for you in the pictures. Of course you’re not there.. yet, not there in person, but you were there in your mommas heart. She knew she wanted you before she met me but when we knew you were on the way our whole world was focused on that. Focused on you. There were a whole lot of I don’t know say modern youth concepts about having a baby at that time…. Having your baby underwater…. Having your baby without anesthesia, that was a big one…. That never made sense to me. I used to say it’s like having your teeth drilled without Novacaine… what’s the point??? Anyway, that morning when you were born, I went from a level of panic and consternation to exhilaration of overwhelming...

Good morning, hi there, hello ๐Ÿ˜Š

Image
Good morning, hi there, hello. ๐Ÿ˜Š Well the highlight of my day yesterday was during my appointment at my hair stylist so we have a mutual friend who has a new puppy and her plan was to bring the puppy by to see us but she hadn't gotten there yet so we were joking about it and wondering where she was and I guess I can blame it on looking through my old scrapbooks and seeing my memorabilia from the production hair in the 70s so my hair stylist said "Why don't you text her and see where she is?" So I texted her and with no plan in mind I said "We're running naked through the woods so be sure and let us know when you get here so we can run back." I know it sounds a little much of a stretch but it flipped my whole day upside down in such a fantastic way and I realized I need to cut up more I need to let my hair down more I need to be not editing what I'm going to say before I say it all those good things so watch out! ๐Ÿค—

America the Beautiful

Image
"America the Beautiful" originated as a poem, "Pikes Peak," by Katharine Lee Bates in 1893, inspired by her view from Pikes Peak. Samuel A. Ward's 1882 music, "Materna," was paired with it, published in 1910. Ray Charles's soulful rendition became a notable version, popularizing the song in the later 20th century. I felt that Ray Charles version had a certain sincerity and grit that resonated with these days and times. The people, on April 5, 2025 at this rally and across this nation sincerely love America, we are inspired as are the poets and musicians in our love and hope for America. We only ask the her appointed leaders abide by the principles upon which our great nation was founded. We are, as in everything, a work in progress and with guidance and perseverance we will continue to find our way.

Suddenly Single and Lovin’ Our Dogs

Image
We're back talking about our dogs again. Just one thing leads to another. And Alice, you were just telling me how, you were telling me really how you adopted her in your first couple of days, but now go ahead. How she communicates. Yes. She's just more complex in her behavior. Right. So she's, she's stimulated my mind to, so that I can figure out what she needs what she wants you know so that she can have it yeah yeah and so it's it's been so interesting because I’ve never had a dog like this she you know navigates her day so differently my other dogs were just more um well quiet relaxed and hung out right I didn't want to say anything because i almost said dogs i might have to edit that i think i lost you um I'll keep yammering. You'll probably come back. Oh, I'm here. I'm here. Cory Booker - Watch the moment when Cory Booker ended his record 25 hour Senate speech

But I know who does have the power the people of the United States of America the power of the people is greater than the people in power it is time to heed the words of the man I began this whole thing with John Lewis i I beg folks to take his example of his early days where he made himself determined to show his love for his country at a time the country didn't love him to love this country so much to be such a patriot that he endured beatings savagely on the Edund Pettis Bridge at lunch counters on freedom rides he said  he had to do something he would not normalize a moment like this he would not just go along with business and usual he wouldn't know how to solve it but there's one thing that he would do that I hope we all can do that I think I did a little bit of tonight he said for us to go out and cause some good trouble necessary trouble to redeem the soul of our nation i want you to redeem the dream when our founders said "We must mutually pledge pledge to eac...

Wanna be The Beatles

https://youtube.com/watch?v=ElMk3GZHrMw&lc=UgyCMhvge7pcenbkafd4AaABAg&si=_yltePlmlKr3XHdR You are a guitarist and therefore you have a unique perspective on what is and what isn’t excellent musicianship… I’m glad you pointed out the rhythm on All My Lovin’ because even though it’s recognized widely as a great song, I don’t think most people have any idea how difficult that riff is the way John plays that rhythm guitar… I saw an interview where Paul pointed that out that he had written the song and felt good about it, but John put that extra touch that made it so unique…. I think this is why they are The Beatles, because even though individually, they are great musical artist it’s their combined efforts and talents that make them so incredibly unique. When you think that these two young guys in the little town of Liverpool decided that they’d write songs together and right from the beginning, decided they’d give each song their mutual credit, Lennon and McCartney, this is ...

Fwd: The Morning: Cutting off NPR and PBS

Image
Pete Begin forwarded message: From: The New York Times <nytdirect@nytimes.com> Date: April 1, 2025 at 6:45:14 AM EDT To: peteandtess@gmail.com Subject: The Morning: Cutting off NPR and PBS Public airwaves By Benjamin Mullin I cover the media. There is no reason, Republicans say, for the government to fund NPR and PBS. Last week, G.O.P. members of Congress, led by Marjorie Taylor Greene, flayed the leaders of both organizations for what they said was partisan programming. "You all can hate us on your own dime," Greene said. The next day, a Republican introduced a bill to end all government support. What would happen to public broadcasting if Republicans succeeded? In today's newsletter, I'll explain. NPR The specter of government abandonment has haunted public radio for so long that executives drafted a secret plan for the worst. In February 2011, NPR assembled a 36-page document that detailed exactly what would happen if the Treasury stopped cutting checks t...
