Exercise - Six Simple Movements - Six Buddhist Teachings Exercise - Do This!
10/01/25 I have been turning to YouTube university as I called for several years probably to do stuff from everything from fixing the toilet to my interest in robots, to Ev’s to Living Alone and recently Chinese technology…. But when I found these six exercises that Japanese do to extend their health into their later years, I really found something that I thought I could do that might change my own trajectory and staying healthy. Instead of riding my bike as hard as I can, as long as I can or doing the same and hiking with my buddy Chip, these six movements are essentially very simple and yet depending on your physical flexibility, they’re not very easy…Case in Point is getting up off the floor from a sitting position. Something happened to my life recently that really brought this task to my attention. My dearest friend found herself sitting on the floor and unable to get up…Thank God, she called me for my assistance. I say it that way, because I am so grateful that she turned to me for assistance instead of letting her pride dictate by not calling me or even by calling EMS.
So the skill is getting up off the floor from the sitting position..my knees are very sensitive to pain so I need to be on a carpet to do this to practice this and now I’m doing it several times a day. I am encouraging my friend to do it as well and I am asking her to try practicing it while I’m standing there with her so I can offer assistance if needed. The video makes a very strong point if you will lose your ability to stand up from a sitting position on the ground, you lose your autonomy you lose your independence….Now to me, that’s a very scary thought. Right now, I have the privilege of volunteering for hospice and visiting people in nursing homes with my little dog Zeke. I say this is an honor and a privilege and I mean that because it tells me yeah I’m still able to give and I do have something to give even if it’s just a few minutes to a few people a day. The other thing it is done is it it’s kind of taken the fear or at least the mystery out of what goes on in nursing homes. I have found them to be very pleasant and supportive environments. I have found the people that I’m dealing with to be very Positive and reasonably content, which is good. But here’s the problem or here’s how it affects me as well. I never wanna be in a nursing home. I’m gonna repeat that I’m never Going to be in a nursing home…now, how can I prevent that or how can I control that? I’m not gonna give an answer to that I really don’t have it. The only thing I’m gonna do is keep on keeping on as we say and hiking. Just keep putting 1 foot in front of the other part of that 1 foot in front of the other is learning how to sit down on the floor and as the video points out, it’s not sitting on the floor that is the health issue. It’s getting back up. I’ve often said half tongue and shake that getting up after lunch on a long hike is the hardest part getting up is the hardest part so if that’s the truth, then the more often you get up the easier you get to do it and with everything else it’s all about doing it so I’m gonna shut up that’s enough words for this Blog. The main thing is watch the videos and do the movements
