Sisters and brothers - Nearly every day there is a frightening new story about how Big Tech companies are losing control of the technology they are developing, with potentially cataclysmic results. As I’m sure you heard Jacob Coxon, a former Anthropic employee, resigned last week and said that the very people building this technology admit that it could threaten the future of humanity. Nobel Prize winner and the Godfather of AI Dr...

Turing test

The Turing test is   a method proposed by mathematician Alan Turing in 1950 to measure whether a machine can exhibit intelligent behavior indistinguishable from a human .   [ 1 ]   How It Works  Three Participants:  A human evaluator (interrogator), a human respondent, and a machine.  Separation:  All participants communicate through text-based chat terminals in separate rooms or without seeing each other.  The Goal:  The interrogator asks questions to both the human and the machine. If the evaluator cannot reliably tell which participant is the machine, the machine passes the test. [ 1 ,  2 ,  3 ,  4 ]  History and Modern Status  Origin:  Alan Turing introduced the concept in his landmark 1950 paper  Computing Machinery and Intelligence , originally calling it the "imitation game".  Modern AI:  With the rise of advanced Large Language Models (LLMs) like GPT-4, modern chatbots routinely tric...
The term   sentient   refers to   the ability to   perceive, feel, or experience things through senses. In both science and philosophy, it is the capacity to have subjective experiences—such as feeling pleasure, pain, warmth, or hunger—rather than just processing data or responding mechanically. Sentient vs. Conscious vs. Sapient People often confuse these terms, but they have distinct meanings: Sentient:   The ability to   feel   (e.g., a dog feeling pain, a deer feeling fear). Most animals are sentient. Conscious:   The state of being   aware   of one's surroundings and existence. Sapient:   The ability to   think, reason, and possess wisdom . Humans are sapient. Why It Matters Today The word is frequently used in debates about   artificial intelligence (AI) . While advanced AI can mimic human conversation and solve complex logic problems, it is   not sentient   because it does not actually feel emotions...

I love your insights and your honesty! We have handed our country and our democracy over to this self absorbed, self serving, narcissistic dictator. The irony of this is that he has tapped into this insecurity in white men and somehow made them feel macho. A guy who dodged the draft is now the Commander in Chief. A guy who bankrupted his own companies is now bankrupting our country and many of the people who follow him, while he gets incredibly rich. He is using and abusing his own followers and somehow they love him for it. The question is, will America survive Trump? Will we self correct before it’s too late to rejoin our traditional allies and resume our role as the world’s leading Democracy as we were before Trump convinced his followers to make America great? Thank you again for speaking up, speaking out and speaking the truth while we still can.
