Alice Adventures in Raleigh - New Beginning’s

I do love going down the rabbit hole. Maybe it's because my name is Alice and I've always enjoyed being associated with "Alice in Wonderland". Never mind, that's too simple. I like complicated. My mind travels daily to new destinations, constantly flowing. I know how lucky I am as I have never been bored and never will be.    In 2020 when I was going down the rabbit hole I was unaware of how I would get to know myself when I decided to move to Raleigh, North Carolina. Yes, I moved during Covid. After contemplating it for hours actually five years I entertained the idea of moving.  I attempted to live in the home I'd loved, however    it wasn't working out. Everywhere I looked brought back so many memories of the past and those who were no longer there with me.  Many of my family and friends    are comforted by staying in the home where their loved ones spent so many years with them. I learned at that point that grieving and life experiences take u...

Dupont Forest and for that matter, Hooker Falls has a special place in my heart because it has a special place in my history. We were living in Spartanburg South Carolina. We had been there close to 30 years. The people I worked with knew that I liked hiking, and one day, a young lady brought me the Bold magazine featuring a hiking group And thought maybe I should join it well, I took her up on it and I joined that group, we took a hike that day. It was one of these things, the little things turning into the big things. It was a cold and cloudy morning. It was rainy and the day did not look promising The hike leader came by our car and suggested that we call it off for the day and wait for sunnier skies. Well, the group of us had just started to get to know each other and we kinda looked at each other and one of the guys said hey I know where are they planning to go and I know the way, let’s just go and see what happens Well what happened was Tess and I moved to Hendersonville No...

Mountain Meditations- Hooker Falls

Sitting beside beautiful hooker Falls in Dupont Forest, which is a part of Pisgah national Forest. A beautiful peaceful day, resting by the waterfall. There were families there with children, enjoying the serenity and the challenge of being in the forest. I have my little Shih Tzu, Zeke and many people have their dogs. It’s just really a beautiful place for everybody to visit and I wanted to bring a piece of it home for us to enjoy.. I’ve now reached the age of 76 years. I’ve done a lot of hiking. I’ve seen a lot of beautiful places, but as Dorothy said in the Wizard of Oz, there’s no place like home there’s no place like home.

Dear Family & Friends, I am thrilled to share some exciting news: Michael is hanging up his lab coat (or perhaps his keyboard?) after an impressive 33 1/3 years at Los Alamos National Laboratory! His official retirement date is this Friday, January 31st, marking the end of a career that began back in 1991 when, at the age of 25, he loaded up his trusty Toyota Corona and drove from South Carolina to New Mexico. Once there, he started a graduate research assistantship at the Lab as part of his work towards a PhD in physics at Clemson University. Michael was fortunate to join a team working on an experimental satellite project at LANL that would open the door to many future ...
